Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles
Monday, March 30
After playing on Seagate in the Sea of Cortez in January and February, it was time to return the boat to her home port of Marina del Rey, CA. Alex volunteered to accompany owner Dick Squire along with Ray Mahaffey of Los Angeles and Patrick Gill of Seattle. Ray and Patrick are also power boat owners, so with Dick's 60 years of active boating, we had close to 200 years of experience aboard! That is a bunch, however there's really nothing to prepare you for the Baja Bash, where the waves, currents and winds conspire to make the ride exceptionally uncomfortable.
Turns out the smart boaters hire a skipper for the return trip northwestward. But there are those of us that have to experience it first hand, for whatever reason. Had I read the book "Baja Bash II" by Captain Jim Elfers first, I would have gladly assisted with the delivery FUND, instead of the delivery FUN!
Luckily Patrick was in a blogging mood, and posted an excellent report of our Baja Bash. You can read it at Spirit Selene 55 Blog.
You should hear from the Wild Blue starting mid-April as we again tackle the relatively tame waters of the Inside Passage on the way to Alaska. Cheers.... Alex
